4 Days Uganda Gorillas Savannah and Kalinzu Chimpanzees

About This 4-Day Safari

Combine Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth and Kalinzu in a short road safari that makes the most of four active days. Begin with a transfer to the gorilla forest, then move north after trekking for a full wildlife day in Queen Elizabeth. A chimpanzee trek in Kalinzu completes the programme before returning to Kampala or Entebbe. This itinerary is demanding for its duration and works best when travel to Uganda is arranged outside the four safari days.

  • Bwindi mountain gorilla trekking
  • Queen Elizabeth morning game drive
  • Kazinga Channel boat excursion
  • Kalinzu chimpanzee tracking
  • Optional locally led Batwa visit where timing allows

Where You Will Go

The places this safari visits, in the order you will reach them.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage rainforest in south-western Uganda and home to around half of the world’s mountain gorillas.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Savannah, crater lakes and the Kazinga Channel, with hippos, elephants and the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.

Day By Day Itinerary

Every day is planned by our local team and can be adjusted to your pace.

Day1
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Road journey to Bwindi

Depart early for southwestern Uganda with a lunch stop on the way. The route passes through changing farmland and the hills leading towards Bwindi. Arrive at accommodation chosen for your confirmed gorilla sector. A Batwa community visit can be requested if arrival time permits, but rest and preparation for trekking take priority on this long transfer day.

Overnight: Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge, Bwindi area
Lunch and Dinner
Day2
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi gorillas and onward to Queen Elizabeth

Begin with the gorilla briefing before entering the forest with the ranger team. Trek at the group’s pace and observe the gorillas according to the park’s instructions once they are located. Return, freshen up and continue towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. The departure and arrival times remain flexible because the gorilla search cannot be scheduled to finish at a fixed hour.

Overnight: Elephant Hab Lodge, Queen Elizabeth area
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day3
Queen Elizabeth National Park

A full day in Queen Elizabeth

Explore the park on an early wildlife drive, looking for elephants, buffaloes, kob and possible big cats. Pause at productive sightings to learn about the animals and their habitat. After lunch, join a Kazinga Channel boat safari. Return to your accommodation with time for dinner and a rest before tomorrow’s forest outing.

Overnight: Elephant Hab Lodge, Queen Elizabeth area
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day4

Kalinzu chimpanzees and return transfer

Visit Kalinzu for a guided chimpanzee trek following the forest briefing. Listen for calls and keep to your guide’s instructions as the team locates the group. Continue towards Kampala or Entebbe after the activity, with lunch en route. An overnight before flying onward is recommended if the road journey leaves a limited airport margin.

Where You Will Stay

Lodges are subject to availability. If a lodge is full we replace it with one of an equal standard. For gorilla trekking, the lodge is matched to the sector of your confirmed permit.

Practical Planning

Things worth knowing before you book.

Day 1 is a long road transfer; do not pair it with a late international arrival.

Day 2 combines gorilla trekking with an onward drive, and the transfer must adapt to the trek’s finishing time.

A Batwa visit is optional rather than guaranteed on the first evening. Consider a fifth day if you want more time for culture and rest.

Best Time To Go

Dry seasons run from December to February and June to September: easiest trails and best game viewing. March to May and October to November are wetter, greener and quieter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the 4 Days Uganda Gorillas Savannah and Kalinzu Chimpanzees?

The package includes Scheduled road transfers and guiding for the agreed itinerary; accommodation for the scheduled nights; meals shown in the confirmed meal plan; entry fees and scheduled core activities confirmed in the quotation; one gorilla trekking permit and one standard chimpanzee trekking permit per eligible participant, subject to confirmation and availability. It does not include international flights and any travel before or after the agreed programme; visa costs and personal travel insurance; tips, laundry, personal purchases and drinks not expressly included; optional activities, upgrades and additional nights; meals outside the confirmed meal plan; personal porter hire for the gorilla trek unless expressly included.

Do I need a gorilla permit?

Yes. Mountain gorilla trekking requires a permit and the number of permits is limited each day, so we recommend booking as early as you can, especially for the dry months of June to September and December to February. Giravex reserves your permit once your dates are confirmed.

Do I need a visa for Uganda?

Most visitors need a visa. Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda are covered by the East Africa Tourist Visa, which allows travel between all three on one visa. We will confirm exactly what applies to your passport when you book.

When is the best time to take this safari?

Dry seasons run from December to February and June to September: easiest trails and best game viewing. March to May and October to November are wetter, greener and quieter.

Can the itinerary be changed?

Yes. Every Giravex itinerary can be adjusted to your dates, pace, budget and interests. Tell us what you would like to change and a trip specialist will tailor it for you.
