Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking Safaris

Walk into Kibale Forest, the "primate capital of the world", and spend an hour with wild chimpanzees.

Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda is home to a large chimpanzee population and thirteen primate species in total. Chimpanzee trekking here is more energetic than gorilla trekking, because chimps move quickly and call loudly, but the reward is an hour of intense behaviour: feeding, grooming, calling and playing.

Chimp trekking is easy to add to any trip that includes Fort Portal, Queen Elizabeth or Bwindi, and it pairs naturally with a gorilla trek for a complete primate safari.

How We Plan It

We book permits for the right date and morning slot.

We pair chimps with gorillas, savannah parks and crater lakes in a single route.

We choose lodges near the forest edge for early starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chimpanzee trekking easier than gorilla trekking?

Often yes, though chimps move fast. Both depend on where the animals are on the day.

Can I do both on the same trip?

Yes. Many of our itineraries link Kibale with Bwindi, with savannah parks in between.

What is the best time to go?

Chimps can be tracked all year. The drier months make trails easier.

Do I need a permit?

Yes. A trekking permit is required for each visitor, and we arrange it for you.
