4 Days Kenya Birding Nairobi Naivasha and Nakuru
About This 4-Day Safari
Introduce yourself to Kenya’s birdlife through a short route linking Nairobi National Park with two Rift Valley lake regions. Begin with mixed habitats near the capital, then use Naivasha as a base for lakeside and surrounding birding. A boat outing provides access to waterbirds, while Nakuru adds a final change of habitat before the return. Species targets are chosen with the guide according to season, access and the habitats visited.
- Birding Nairobi National Park
- Lake Naivasha boat excursion
- A dedicated Naivasha-region birding day
- Lake Nakuru birding before returning to Nairobi

Day By Day Itinerary
Every day is planned by our local team and can be adjusted to your pace.
Nairobi National Park bird habitats
Begin with a birding visit to Nairobi National Park after meeting your guide. Explore a selection of open grassland, wooded and wetland habitats according to the approved route. The varied setting allows you to practise identifying birds by shape, movement and calls. Return to your Nairobi accommodation after the session and discuss the lake-region programme.
Travel to Naivasha and boat birding
Head towards Lake Naivasha with selected stops around the Rift Valley landscape. A guided boat excursion takes you onto the lake to look for waterbirds and species using shoreline trees. The boat guide handles positioning and appropriate wildlife distances. Check into your accommodation for a second day of birding in the region.
Naivasha’s surrounding habitats
Spend the day exploring agreed lakeside, woodland and nearby open-country habitats. Work with the guide to build on the previous day’s sightings rather than repeating the same route without purpose. Lunch and rest breaks are arranged around productive sessions. The exact locations are selected to match access, the season and the species you would like to find.
Nakuru birding and return to Nairobi
Travel to Lake Nakuru for a final birding session in the park’s varied habitats. Flamingo numbers and other lake birds depend on prevailing water conditions. Leave enough time for lunch and the onward drive to Nairobi. Finish at the agreed drop-off point, using a generous airport margin if you are flying onward that evening.
